I wrote a whole post about some planned Abraham Lincoln topics and it just disappeared. Such is the problem with using a wonky Air Force network to do anything other than “work.” Nevertheless, this quick post should capture most of what was said in the one that was lost forever, and give you something to look forward to in the coming weeks.
In honor of Abraham Lincoln, my favorite president, I plan on writing the following posts about our 16th president:
(Re-)Ranking the Presidents – I’m pretty sure that I’ve ranked the presidents before, but I want to go back and look at them again to aid in the next two/three posts. Note: I couldn’t find this mystery post that I thought I had written, but I have ranked the presidents over four different posts here, here, here, and here.- What Makes Lincoln Great? Part 1- Lots of presidents have done great things for this country, and Lincoln did some terrible things. What puts him above all the rest?
- What Makes Lincoln Great? Part 2 – I named my son Lincoln because of how big a fan I am, but surely other presidents would have been just a viable. How big of a lead in my rankings does Lincoln have over the second-best president?
- Lincoln Versus the Modern Republican Party – Lincoln was the first president elected from the Republican Party back in 1860, and a lot of modern-day Republicans like to invoke his name for some reason. I aim to answer the question if Lincoln would actually be a Republican today, discounting a lot of the modern issues that he wouldn’t have had to deal with in his day.
I think that covers it. Expect the first post from this group sometime before Presidents’ Day, and a bit of a spread between each of these posts just to fill out the month. These will require a bit more research than a lot of my opinion pieces often do, but they should be fun to write, and I hope you enjoy reading them.
As always, thanks for reading. Until next time…
