I have finally decided where I will be going to grad school.
I was going to wait on a decision from the University of Utah, but I figure they would have let me know by now of they were going to offer me admission. Maryland accepted me, but I just think that it would be too cost prohibitive to go there. As much as I love the DC area, I also don’t want to go crazy with new student loans, which I would have to use to cover the difference between the GI Bill and the cost of attendance.
As for Purdue, they deemed me unworthy even after two Skype interviews, though they do still want my money and told me to apply for some German MBA program that costs too much and takes too long. So my decision returns to the school that was number one on my list in the first place, and the school that deemed me worthy of a scholarship for all my awesomeness. While I will still have to cover some tuition, it won’t be nearly as much as compared to Maryland.
I will be heading to the Land of Lincoln and attending the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. The program feels like a great fit, and I hope that it will guide me on the right direction as I figure out how to make my way in the finance world.
I depart for school the third week of May; I have already worked out a sublease on an apartment until August, at which time I will get my own lease through the rest of the program.
By this time next year, I could be well on my way to a fancy job that requires a suit and tie, or maybe build my contact list up enough to start my own fund. I guess we will just have to wait and see what path my life takes. I’m excited for this new chapter in my life, and can’t wait for school to start. I hope that I am able to continue writing while in school, as well as meet all sorts of new people. I’m just glad that I finally have some direction in my life.
One goal down, only about 10 more to go.
Until next time…
Congrats! As much as I would have loved to have you in the same city as me, I think you will do great things at the U of I
🙂
