As mentioned in the last post, before departing Omaha, we went in search of the headquarters of Berkshire Hathaway. I really was hoping for a sign that I could stand out in front of, but alas it was not to be. We managed to find Kiewit Towers where the HQ is housed, though there was no marquee out front as I was hoping, so I left disappointed. However, I will be back in Omaha for the Berkshire annual meeting in May, so that should be fun.
Our trip today took us back into Iowa and north along Interstate 29 into South Dakota, which seems like a nice place when the winds aren’t trying to blow you off the interstate. For a place that had a winter storm roll in a few days ago, there was little to know snow, and it was nice to see blue skies again. The drive was tough if only because of the onslaught of wind, but also annoying because of the ever-present Wall Drug signs that greeted our arrival from the moment we entered the state.
Anyway, here’s a pic I took facing south when we stopped for a break:

If you look hard enough, you can see Nebraska…if you know what you’re looking for. We fought the wind for seven hours, returned to the Mountain Time Zone, and arrived in the Black Hills. Tomorrow, we’ll make a brief stop by Mount Rushmore before completing our trip with an 11-hour drive back to Salt Lake. Should be fun.
Until next time…
