Brothers Across America – Day 21

The closer we get to summer, to closer I get to just going to the University of Illinois for grad school
Looking more and more like I’ll be a student here in the summer

After a stop at the University of Illinois to say hello* to the only grad school that has accepted me thus far, we continued our trek westward.

*At this point, baring an incredible financial aid offer from one of the other three schools, Illinois will probably be my future home for a year starting in May. Unless I can’t bridge the price gap between cost and GI Bill coverage. Then we’ll just wait and see.

We entered Iowa, which is the state of my father’s birth, so there is a small connection to the state. I hope to someday bring my father back to Sioux City to see if he remembers anything from his brief time there, but he moved to California so early on in his life, I doubt he remembers anything about where he grew up and things like that. Guess we’ll find out.

Couldn't find a sign welcoming us to Iowa, so this will have to do

We spent the night in Omaha, Nebraska, which seems to be a nice town. While driving to get dinner, we passed the immense Nebraska Furniture Mart, one of Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway‘s most famous purchases. Driving past it, I was reminded that Omaha is the home of Berkshire, and I made plans to see if we could find the headquarters before leaving the next morning. Sadly, I was disappointed, but I’ll touch on that a bit more in the next post.

Until next time…
