Driving through Oklahoma today, I noticed something. As we drove through reservation after reservation, I noted to Billy that we were kind of doing the Trail of Tears in reverse. He stated he didn’t know what it was, so I had to explain it to him as the forced removal of Native Americans from Florida in the 19th century. They were moved to Oklahoma, where they were promised they would be able to live in peace forever. This lasted for about 20 years, when the Sooners showed up, but that is a story you can read about in the history books.
Other than that, the drive was pretty uneventful. We found a Dunkin’ Donuts, and also learned that people in Oklahoma don’t understand how a four-way stop is supposed to work. Luckily we escaped with our lives by taking the right of way, but it was nonetheless an interesting couple of seconds. We haven’t seen snow since we first crossed into Oklahoma, so that’s exciting, and hopefully we won’t see it again until we get closer to New England. Tomorrow, we are going to the Clinton Library, maybe driving through the battlefield at Vicksburg, and driving onto Montgomery, Alabama.
