Brothers Across America – Day 3

A quick stop through the panhandle of Texas is still enough for a picture opportunity

Today was the first day that we crossed three state borders in one day. This will obviously start to happen more as we get further east — a drive from DC to Connecticut results in seven states — but it will be the only time that we touch Texas, so I figured that I should get a picture. Our Texas experience was interesting to say the least: finding gas was fairly difficult along Interstate 40, a highway on-ramp turned into a frontage road too easily, and the long arm (and big hat) of the Texas Highway Patrol deemed it necessary to give me a warning for driving a bit too fast outside of Amarillo. Otherwise, our drive the the Texas Panhandle was pretty boring.

We “saw” most of Oklahoma by night, as you might be able to tell by the duskiness of the above photo. But at least we weren’t alone in taking border sign pictures. When we finally saw the Oklahoma sign, a person with Washington plates was taking a picture of the sign as well, seemingly documenting his trip the same way. I don’t know if he had done it at every state along the way, or if Oklahoma was alone because it was where he was heading, but I salute you, Picture-Taking Traveler.

Nothing else really noteworthy about Oklahoma thus far, though we still have another hour or so through the state on Friday as we head to Arkansas. We ate dinner at a Steak & Shake, an underrated restaurant that belongs in Utah, and blew a fuse in my car trying to charge my phone. Other than that, we found our hotel, watched some TV, and went to bed. Shortly, we’ll be on our way east again. So far, so good.

Until next time…
