In an attempt to get more writing up here in a more frequent way, I am going to try to force myself to publish here at least three days a week. For the foreseeable future, I can see my Monday posts being about my latest attempt at losing weight, while every other Friday or so will possibly be a movie review or something else pop culture-y. As for the midweek post, I don’t know if it will be something specific each week. While internally debating what to write in this space since Monday, I have yet to have a decent idea for anything. That said, I ultimately think this midweek slot will just be a dumping ground for random thoughts that come up during my perusal of the web in my off time, or simply a place to dump all that extraneous junk that floats in your head as you are trying to go to sleep. Other people get that too, right? I’m not alone in that I would think.
Despite all this, I think it is time to abandon the “woe is me” posts that crop up from time to time. Sure, I don’t think that my life is perfect yet — I think even the most “perfect” person has room to improve somewhere — but by constantly focusing on the semi-bad things that happen, I find myself being slightly more depressed than I probably should be. This needs to stop, so I’ll attempt to avoid frequent posts about things like that. Not everything from here on out will be puppies and unicorns, but it will hopefully be changed for the best. However, I do reserve the right to go post something like that on occasion, so don’t hate me when I do.
So after 300 words of introduction, what am I going to write about? Good question. I do have a bit of exciting news that will hopefully come to fruition within the next couple of weeks. My friend Shawn and I, in what will hopefully be preparation for a future podcast and investing partnership, will be doing some back and forth about some of our favorite stocks. We are still working out the details, but hopefully the blog will be live and full of great information by September. I must admit that the thought behind this venture might be a bit selfish on my part, at least initially. As a contributor to The Motley Fool, I often find myself struggling with article ideas, partially because none of my local friends are terribly interested in investing. We will have to see if the vision I have for it will come to fruition, but I’ll be sure to let you know when you can go check it out. We aren’t professional investors by any stretch of the imagination, and there is probably some way better places to go for actual buy/sell advice, but hopefully we can be entertaining enough to become a stop on the internet for at least a handful of people.
I think that I will leave this first more frequent post as an introduction of sorts to what to expect from this blog going forward. If you have any suggestions for future blog posts, feel free to leave me a message in the comments. Reader engagement is supposedly a pretty big deal in the world of blogging, so let’s see if we can develop some sort of kinship over the months ahead. I hope to hear from you soon!
Until next time…
I always love your trips down memory lane. Your kid diary entires and the such. Blogs about that would be fun. 🙂 Glad to see you writing! I’ll definitely stop by and see what you have to say.
I think the most successful bloggers are ones that are A) consistent – so stick to your goal. and B) honest. Sure, it sucks to read about a mopey person all the time, but it would also be boring to read a dishonest blog too. Personally, as someone who loves you, I would prefer that rather than you just not write about the woe is me stuff, you shake it up so the woe is me goes away. Easier said than done, but hey, I’m doing it every day 🙂
Just keep writing, even if you think you have nothing to write about, just write something.
That’s the plan. I haven’t totally eliminated the option of woe is me, but my life isn’t really that bad. Instead, I’ll focus on doing more productive things. But the writing more frequently is more important, which is why I’m going to try to do three days a week. If inspiration hits me, I can do it more frequently obviously, but consistency is the name of the game. As I write more, I have noticed an uptick in readership, instead of just the random movie reviews and the like.
Thanks for the love, and it could be a lot worse! 🙂
