I thought that while I was on this deployment, I would use the free Army Tuition Assistance to complete at least a portion of a Master’s degree. So much for that idea. It’s not that I don’t have the time, or that it was hard, I just couldn’t get motivated to actually take some time and do as well as I could in the courses. It’s not worth going, even for free, if you aren’t going to do your best. Furthermore, even if I want to stay in the Army for the near future, there will be a time in my life that I won’t be in the Army or working for them, so I might as well do as well as possible so that I might be able to get in a pretty decent “real” graduate school program.
I suppose my inability to do these courses has something to do with working seven days a week and 10-12 hours a day. Granted, my job here is not the most difficult, but we have to be somewhere during the whole shift, not really giving a lot of time to do anything else but work, eat, and sleep. Even going to the gym is a chore, because going takes away from your free time. But that’s an issue that I am trying to resolve, and hopefully we’ll be able to work something out in my section that we can start working days off into the schedule, though with one of our guys going on leave soon that might be pretty difficult and require some shifting around of some schedules. At least I have been getting out of work early most days. Are we really going to be here for another six months?
Until next time…
