Song of the Week

So, I have decided to start a little series on this here blog o’ mine. Every week (or when I remember), I am going to post lyrics of a song that is currently stuck in my head for whatever reason, and maybe even provide a link or something so you can listen and bask in all it’s awesomeness. Do I do this because my taste in music is very cool and you should all listen to the music that I do? Not necessarily, but feel free to comment on my musical choices. The first song is of course by the one and only Ben Folds, but not all of them will be, so check back frequently and be entertained.

The song below is Ben Folds challenging some group and/or artist who insulted him in a song to a dance off. Ben Folds hasn’t specifically said whom the song is about, but if you Google “Brainwascht meaning Ben Folds,” you can go to this fancy little site and get a decent hypothesis as to whom he is talking about. Who knows if it is true?

Song: Brainwascht
Album: Way to Normal
Artist: Ben Folds

If you want to write a letter, write a letter
If you’d rather make a phone call, pick the phone up
Call me

But if you had to say it all with a pop song
Couldn’t you at least have written me a good one?

She’s brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you too

She’s brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you too

Was it just a simple rewind and erase?
Was your mind squeaky clean in the first place?

If you got to write an essay do your research
(If you got to) stick your nose in a boy and girl fight
hear both sides first

There something wrong being copied on a memo
In the form of a bad country demo

She’s brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you too

She’s brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you too

Is there a funnel from her mind to your mouth now?
Cause you don’t edit anything it just comes out

(Yeah)

I gotta say
It’s pretty gay
Trading jabs with pop songs

So maybe next time we should just have a dance-off?
A dance-off

You know there’s something in the bible about forgiveness and love
And more importantly about throwing stones and and what your house is made of
You might reflect upon your own arrangement
Ninety-four getting blown in your basement (While your wife slept)

She’s brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you too

She’s brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you
Brainwashed you too

She’s brainwashed you (Integrity)
She’s brainwashed you (Family)
She’s brainwashed you (Online rhyming dictionary)

(Uh!)
